Embryo Freezing & Storage Cost Calculator
How much does embryo storage cost?
There is no single fee this calculator can quote for your clinic. Use the clinic or storage provider's written annual fee, subtract any included period, and multiply by billable years. Check renewal increases and transfer or shipping fees separately.
Illustrative arithmetic: $700 per year for five billable years is $3,500. This is an example, not a verified average or a provider quote. Change the storage allowance and years below to model your own fee.
A storage fee is different from the cost of a freezing cycle. The calculator keeps these lines separate. Prepare questions about embryo storage and consent.
Replace the $13,000 example with your written quote. Confirm retrieval, fertilization, anesthesia, and freezing inclusions.
Enter an example number of cycles. This tool does not estimate how many you need.
Replace the $5,000 allowance with a pharmacy quote.
Optional allowance of $4,500 per cycle; edit it below. Inclusion is not a clinical recommendation.
Example allowance of $1,200 per vial; edit it below. Ask about shipping and other fees.
Billable years only. Adjust for included storage and possible price changes.
Example allowance of $2,500 for the total legal scope you choose; edit it below. Obtain separate quotes where needed.
Illustrative subtotal only. Later transfer, travel, leave, shipping, extra procedures, and parenting costs are excluded. Insurance is not deducted. Avoid counting an included fee twice.
Formula and assumptions
Total = cycles × (clinic quote + medication) + selected testing allowance × cycles + selected donor allowance × vials + selected legal allowance + billable storage years × annual storage.
Optional testing is modeled per cycle, donor sperm per vial, and legal work once. Actual packages may use different units. Adjust allowances to match your quotes. Choosing an option here does not recommend it medically.
Check what the clinic quote includes
Ask about monitoring, retrieval, anesthesia, fertilization, freezing, medication, storage, cancellations, and later treatment. A freezing subtotal is not the total cost of a pregnancy attempt. The budget guide shows how to keep exclusions and unknown costs visible.
How storage adds up
Multiply the quoted fee by billable years. These are examples, not a price survey. Ask about included periods, renewals, increases, contact requirements, and transfer fees.
| Billable years | Example: $500/year | Example: $1,000/year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $500 | $1,000 |
| 5 | $2,500 | $5,000 |
| 10 | $5,000 | $10,000 |
Worked default example
One cycle at $13,000 plus $5,000 medication, a $2,500 legal allowance, and five billable years at $700 totals $24,000. Testing and donor sperm are unchecked. Change any input to see how the subtotal changes.
What the sources support
CDC data explains ART and reported outcomes; it is not a national clinic fee schedule. ASRM patient guidance separates freezing, storage, and later-use costs. Our dollar defaults are illustrative allowances, not prices validated by those organizations.
Ask your insurer and employer about your specific benefits. ASRM’s coverage resources are a starting point, not confirmation that your plan pays.
